In a significant move aimed at easing the financial burden on its citizens, the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) government has announced substantial subsidies in electricity prices. This decision comes shortly after the federal government’s approval to release twenty-three billion rupees from the national exchequer to address the issue effectively.

Prime Minister Azad Kashmir Chaudhry Anwaar ul Haq, in a news conference held in Islamabad, highlighted the immediate implementation of these subsidies following the intervention of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. He expressed gratitude towards Prime Minister Sharif for his proactive approach in resolving the issue and ensuring the prompt issuance of necessary notifications.

Under the newly issued notifications:

Residential Electricity Rates:

Usage between 1-100 units will be charged at 3 rupees per unit.
Usage between 100-300 units will be charged at 5 rupees per unit.
Usage above 300 units will be charged at 6 rupees per unit.
Commercial Electricity Rates:

For the 1-300 unit slab, the rate is set at 10 rupees per unit.
For usage exceeding 300 units, the rate is fixed at 15 rupees per unit.
These revisions in electricity tariffs reflect a substantial reduction and are expected to significantly alleviate the financial strain on households and businesses in Azad Kashmir. Prime Minister Anwaar ul Haq also expressed appreciation to the federal government for shouldering the burden of twenty-three billion rupees on the national exchequer, demonstrating a commitment to the welfare of the people of Azad Kashmir.

This initiative underscores the government’s dedication to ensuring affordable and accessible electricity for its citizens, contributing to socio-economic development and improved quality of life across the region.
